To try and waken myself up and shrug off the sleepy Monday vibes I thought I would write up a little review on a pair of contact lenses that I have been trying out lately.
First a little background into how I discovered coloured lenses.
Since I am blind as a bat (I wish I was exaggerating), I started wearing contacts when I was about 15 years old. Before that, I was the typical nerdy Asian teenager complete with wire frames and terrible skin haha
I would say that this was also the time that 'circle lens' started becoming a big thing. I remember buying my first coloured lenses from a website called 'mukuchu' which was based in Brisbane and therefore very convenient. Over the years I have experimented the go to black, brown as well as green, blue and purple.
Lately, after a hiatus of sorts, I have again been drawn back into the world of lenses and I decided to give Lil Moon a go. All the coloured lenses I have used in the past were made by Korean companies (mainly GEO), but this one is actually from a Japanese brand.
I purchased these from eyecandys.com for around AUD$37. They would definitely be the most expensive coloured lenses I have purchased since they can only be used for one month. On the other hand, my previous lenses have always been 12 month usage. This isn't completely a bad thing though since I never wore my old lenses for the full 12 months. Even with cleaning, bacteria and other build up would make it really risky for eye health.
As a trade off for the higher price, these Lil Moon lenses definitely are the most naturally colored lenses I have ever purchased. They aren't completely just one colour, in contrast they consist of a gradient of blues, browns/hazels and a smattering of grey.
When I'm wearing them you can definitely tell that I'm wearing lenses because the enlargement is quite noticeable in my opinion, and also because I become an Asian with blue/grey eyes... However, there are no harsh rings or lines around the outside and they blended nicely with my natural eye colour so I really like how they look! They also photograph very nicely, even with flash, which is always a plus ;D
Comfort wise they aren't too bad, however, it would be wise to carry eye drops if you are thinking of trying these out since they do get a little dry later on in the day. There was an instance where I wore them for over 12 hours and they still felt fine so it really depends on how your eyes are I guess :)
Would I recommend these?
As I have mentioned, the price is higher than some other lenses out there so if price is a big factor then it may be worth considering main stream brands like GEO and Freshlook.
Also, if you aren't really looking for enlargement and more of just a colour change then these may not be for you. The diameter is stated as 14.5mm which I guess is quite standard for 'circle' lenses but I personally prefer between 14.0-14.2mm since I like it to look more natural and less 'dolly'. They do pretty well in terms of effect and comfort so I would recommend these based on those two factors.
Would I repurchase?
I am a big fan of the colour construction of these because they blend in really nicely and make my eyes a super pretty colour when I'm wearing them. If the diameter of these were slightly smaller than I would definitely rate these a lot higher. I would probably repurchase these if I wanted them for something specific (e.g. to complete a makeup look or transformation/costume of some sort) but I probably wouldn't get them again for daily/regular wear.
