Collagen is the protein in the epidermis which helps our skin to retain water and increase elasticity. In other words, collagen is key to maintaining youthful looking skin as collagen production slows down after we pass our 20's. To cater for those who want to try and keep their youthful looks (aka. the majority of all women), many companies have come up with collagen related products like creams, serums, masks and also dietary supplements in powder, liquid and pill forms.
The reason why I have also hopped onto the collagen bandwagon is because I feel that my skin can get very dehydrated and I'm also a firm believer in prevention over cure so I guess it can't hurt to get started on maintaining my skin early rather than have to worry about wrinkles later ;D On top of this, I felt that my skin was already slowing down in collagen production because towards the end of the day, if I had been smiling or laughing, I would get smile lines (!!!) Maybe it's because I haven't eaten collagen replenishing foods lately, I guess I will have to really scarf down more pig trotters when I go back to Hong Kong later this month :D
I bought this for $18.95 at W Cosmetics, but if you are looking to buy it online, I would suggest that you use more trustworthy websites like www.w2beauty.com or by searching it up on Gmarket since there are a lot of fakes floating around these days due the popularity of this product in Asia.
I found a list of the main ingredients in this product on a website called Koredepart which I have included below ↓↓↓
Main ingredients: Collagen peptide 50,000mg, Adenosine, Bean fermentation extract, Macadamia seed oil, Cacao seed extract
Even though its a mask pack, there's no need to wash it off like a sleeping mask. And I actually like to have put this on under my moisturiser before I put on my BB cream because I feels like it helps the BB cream/foundation/powder to 'stick' on better (a bit like a primer).
Now I know everyone has busy lives and want to know whether this is worth getting or not, so for those who are keen on getting straight to what I think of the product, here are the pros, cons and overall thoughts.
Pros
1. Price is extremely reasonable considering how well the product works. I'm sure there are man products more expensive than this which make similar claims but does not work as well.
2. I've really seen a big improvement in my complexion after using this continuously
3. No need to wash off which is great for lazy people like me ;P
4. Suitable for all skin types, even those with sensitive skin like mine!
Cons
Can't really think of any cons haha, if I think of any I'll update this post later.
Overall thoughts: If I was rich and rolled around in money everyday, I would literally just buy truckloads of this and give it to anyone and everyone who wanted to try this product because I really think that it's great. HONEST UNSPONSORED WORDS! And maybe some people who have tried it don't think its THAT great, but in my opinion, its 대박 :D
Now onto the full review.
Packaging: Very simple and practical packaging design, there's nothing fancy about it, but I like it's simplicity. The spatula is very handy as the product itself is so gelatinous it would be kind of a bother, and most likely messy if it was me, to scoop it out with your fingers like you could with cream or even gel based products.
Texture - As I mentioned before, the texture is very gelatinous, when you open it, it literally looks like jelly. To be honest, this kind of reminds me of the kind of jelly like stuff that you get when you put leftover meat like chicken wings or something in the fridge. I guess that could be have collagen in it too? The fact that I can mix this pack up as much as I want and it revert back to it's original smooth consistency shows that it is really full of collagen since products (not even real jelly) can do this, and collagen is supposed to maintain elasticity which I think means that it can help our skin go back to it's usual smoothness even after we've been contorting our faces into the expressions we use everyday (e.g. smiling, frowning etc.)
Scent - When I first smelt it, I thought that the scent was exactly like a fruity jelly (maybe peach or mango?) But after putting it on my face, I always feel like I get a whiff of a smell that reminds me of pig skin or something (maybe my mind is playing tricks on me?!). It could be that I'm kind of one of those people who really pays attention to scent in general, because no one else seems to have picked up this smell. I mean, the scent they have used in this product is really good at masking what I would think to be a pretty strong smell of pig skin, since 50% of the product is collagen extracted from that, but in a hydrolyzed form.
Effect - In terms of being moisturising, I definitely feel like this one does its job superbly. It could be because I have been using this in conjunction with other moisturising products, but compared to before I started using this, I have seen a big change in my complexion. My complexion seems to have improved and become smoother, so much so that even my facialist asked kind of product I had been using since she thought my skin had improved a lot! I didn't tell her that I had been using a pig skin mask pack but I was secretly happy that she had noticed a difference :') Also, I have noticed that even after a full day of smiling and laughing, I no longer get the deep smile lines that I did before! This is probably the thing I was most impressed with, since I really really didn't like it when that happened to me. So it was a very obvious and welcome result.
